The next segment in the ponder series where we table a thought for us to explore. This segment is not meant to provide the answer but merely the platform for further investigation and discussion.
Recently I wrestled with a thought that had entered my sphere and after sharing this with one of my clients I thought it would be good to share it on the next ponder series.
The prelude to the tussle; a literal composition is defined as a piece that transports the viewer to a very specific place, the artists intent is forced onto the viewer. The contra to this, is a piece that allows the viewer to place that piece anywhere that is specific to them. This could be guided by a viewer’s own emotions and or experiences and could be completely different to the next person viewing the same piece.
The tussle being; as a ‘young’ bonsai nation, is it an evolutionary journey of whereby deeper engagement is formed with a composition? Where personal experiences are at the forefront, translating to fewer literal compositions created over time. Or is this merely one type of composition that an artist has the discretion of use to convey their own statement?
